Festival Watch: Liverpool Psych Fest, Counterflows, Aberdeen's Big Beach Ball and more

Up in Aberdeen, The Big Beach Ball Festival (4 May) is a one-day event featuring sets from electro kingpin Mylo and jungle / drum and bass warrior Dillinja, who were confirmed this week. The festival also features electronic music from Kerri Chandler, Green Velvet as Cajmere, Optimo and Silicone Soul, and live music from Admiral Fallow, Fatherson, Malcolm Middleton, The Pictish Trail and others. Details and tickets here.

Rock and metal festival Download (13-15 Jun) has added some more names to its bill - the new additions include Against Me!, The Wildhearts and Monster Magnet. Also among the 18 new acts confirmed are Chevelle, Arthemis, Orange Goblin, Lawnmower Deth, Royal Blood, and Drones. They join the already-announced likes of Avenged Sevenfold, Rob Zombie, Linkin Park, Aerosmith and others. Details and tickets here.

Liverpool Psych Fest (26-27 Sep) have announced their lineup for 2014 - they welcome the cream of the psych-rock and experimental music scenes, with appearances from Goat, Woods, Suuns, Andrew Weatherall's new project The Chimes of Big Ben, which sees him collaborate with Justin Robertson, Bernie Connor and Richard Hector-Jones, plus Younghusband, Thought Forms, Sudden Death of Stars, White Hills, Wolf People, Hills, Zombie Zombie, Sleepy Sun and Amern Dunes, among others. Details and tickets here.

Staying on an experimental tip, Glasgow's Counterflows (4-6 Apr) will be welcoming a fascinating lineup of avant garde musicians, including loop-driven sonic adventurer and cult singer Ela Orleans in collaboration with filmmaker Maja Borg, Heatsick's Extended Play, a combination live set and installation created with Joe Mcphee and Golden Teacher, plus live appearances from the likes of The Space Lady and Whilst.
