This year, Big In Falkirk will be held on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 May, and the event has an extra special program this year in celebration of its 10th year running. This free festival (held in Callendar Park, Falkirk) will offer something for everyone, from live music to youth and dance theatre, visual arts, sporting activities, their own market and for this year only, an impressive special finale (Burns is Back) to end the weekend and to celebrate Robert Burns' 250th anniversary.

Headliners for this year’s festival include notorious hip-hop artists Stereo MCs and the ever popular folk band Capercaillie. The line–up also includes Scottish folk band Braebach, indie-rockers Danse or Die and Days of Days, reggae star Empress Ayeola, who will play alongside The Ray Summers, The Skin Flints, Hobo Change, The Sears, and Andi Neate.

The festival introduces it’s new Dance Tent this year which is in collaboration with two well established dance theatres: Motionhouse Dance Company and Gilmore Productions, and will offer not only outstanding performances but also a chance to take part in creative workshops suitable for all ages.

Also playing at the festival are Falkirk’s Children’s Youth Theatre, Mischief La Bas (street theatre) and Mitch Miller, who will be exhibiting their energetic, humorous, fairground-themed show. The Screendance Film Festival will be displaying their work in a fun treasure hunt-esque array, for which you'll have to look around for all the films and performers.

If Mmsic and art aren't your cup of tea, the festival also offers their own market including unique clothing and holistic therapies courtesy of the wonderful folks at Made in the Shade, sporting activities from rugby to basketball, to the more extreme sports such as a bungee run, wall climbing and mountain biking.

It's easy to be a bit blasé about family-focused events, but Big in Falkirk really is a bit special: its free, fun and caters for all tastes, ages, and genders – a quality weekend out.
