The Skinny @ Sloans

Fresh from the success of The Dullest Show at The Stand Edinburgh, The Skinny is staking its comedy claim on the west coast at the Magner’s Glasgow International Comedy Festival

Feature by Jen Lavery | 02 Mar 2010

As festival partners for the MGCIF, The Skinny is presenting not one, but two very special shows running all through March at the historic Sloans Bar and Restaurant.

First up, native Glaswegians Des Clarke and Scott Agnew will be bringing their award-winning comedic talents to The Big Lunchtime Comedy Chat Show. Each show promises a range of guests from all over the festival and Agnew is quick to remind us there’s a lot more happening than ‘just’ comedy and chat.

'It’ll be like Friday Night with Jonathan Ross – but in the afternoon!' he tells us. 'We’re going to have a lot of different things going on – interviews, comedy, music, some cabaret. Des and I have known each other for years; we actually went to school together. It’s so much fun working with someone who knows you that well. I’m really looking forward to us bouncing ideas off each other live on stage.'

And despite the promise of top-notch celebrity guests, one thing in particular has gotten Agnew very excited. 'It’s only £3 to get in, but an extra fiver gets you soup and a sandwich too. If you’ve never had the soup in there, you don’t know what you’re missing! The soup is the real star.'

For a double helping of Skinny-hosted entertainment, Thursdays and Sunday evenings brings Stand Up @ Sloans, featuring the comedy stylings of top names and local favourites such as Benjamin Crellin, Marc Maron, Jena Friedman, Todd Barry, Hannibal Buress and Brian Scott McFadden for the bargain basement price of £7/£5 concession.
