Ray Bradshaw: I Dare Ray To @ Glasgow Comedy Festival, 24 March

Review by Simon Pattullo | 27 Mar 2013

Conceptual shows can be fantastic. In the case of Ray Bradshaw there is certainly a concept – to undertake and discuss dares made to him by friends and strangers  and it's a fine one at that, but at present there’s little beyond this initial premise.

A good crowd turns up to hear what scrapes he has gotten into by carrying out these challenges. Alas, there are precious few stories to tell, as he instead lets us know what may lie in store for him. These include a potential dip into politics, cage fighting, and the potential is great... but there's ultimately just not enough material (yet) to sustain the idea.

Had it been a retrospective, looking back over his time when carrying out these inspired dares, there could have been a far broader scope for comedy. He's clealy an accomplished storyteller, and it could be brillant to hear his memories of laying himself open to the imagination of others. In time it may be, but as it is, the audience are left thinking it’s still a work in progress. [Simon Pattullo]
