Young and the Damned @ C Central

It’s funny how little you get for your entry fee these days

It’s funny how little you get for your entry fee these days. A sizeable crowd squeezed into the limited seating at The Carlton Cabaret bar tonight to see Young and the Damned, but were treated to a succinct set only just troubling the 20 minute barrier.

The band themselves, in fairness, are not without decent talent or charisma; their sound touches on elements of The Strokes and The Killers, with keyboard passages adding a bright harmony to the rocking choruses. Singer Patrick Carr possesses an impressively teased quiff and looks head-to-toe a young Morrissey, but just when they threaten to produce music deserving of their esteemed influences, the performance is over. Whether the crowd are more disappointed by the end of the gig, or by the non-appearance of a band member’s famous comedian brother, is up for debate. I'm guessing the former.
