Sista She and the House of the Holy Bootay

Sista She's high-energy, booty shaking hip-hop comedy is rather good fun

This is the theatrical equivalent to a can of Red Bull: a pick-me-up after a grey Edinburgh day, or before a late show or a night of partying.

Bursting onstage to the pumping beats of Run DMC, clad in rather fetching pink sequins and cleavage-enhancing satin waistcoats, Sheila MC Eila, and Rashida EDA MC's embark upon an hour of what might be loosely termed 'hip-hop comedy'. The tunes, mixed by Busty Bests, are an assortment of hip-hop interspersed with an eclectic choice of songs the likes of Maria Carey and Lionel Ritchie. These are edited with the Sistas' own hilarious lyrics paying homage to everything hip-hop, from "big bootays" to their love of sneakers (cue David Bowie’s Major Tom: "This is Tracksuit Pant to Major Shoe").

It's an odd combination of boundless energy, spangley diva costumes, butt-shaking moves and witty rhymes but, goddamn sista, those beats be phat and you be droppin' that shit like it's hot. Loosely translated, Sista She and the House of the Holy Bootay is rather good fun.
