Party

Feature by Yasmin Sulaiman | 05 Aug 2009

Having been crowned best newcomer at the if.comedy awards in 2007, Tom Basden is back this year with his first play at the Fringe, Party. Just don't turn up in your rave gear expecting pulsing beats: this Party is a political one, following the exploits of four suburban idealists who attempt to form a new political organisation that aims to save the world from societal self-destruction.

Writer Basden stars in Party, alongside fellow Cowards member Tim Key, Penny Spubbs creators Anna Crilly and Katy Wix, and Jonny Sweet from last year's Jonny and Joe Show. It's also directed by long-time Cowards collaborator Phil Breen, who won a Fringe First with Stefan Golascewski—another Coward—for last year's show, Stefan Golascewski Talks About a Girl He Once Loved. Couple this comic pedigree with the lyrical brilliance that Basden has shown in his past solo musical comedy efforts and Party promises to be a play that's as eloquent and touching as it is funny.
