Jason Byrne's Telly Idea Which Might Also Work On The Radio Show!

With hilarious alterations to traditional game shows, the host's audience are in fits of laughter from beginning to end

There’s nothing like a good panel show to liven up a rainy afternoon. And this is nothing like a good… let’s not start that one. With special guests Robin Ince and his mate, and some guy from Liverpool and her that’s trying to sell her own show a bit too much, Jason Byrne’s Telly Idea is all set to go horribly wrong. But Byrne is the consummate Fringe professional. He’s even had bus adverts. So if there’s anyone who can manage to shout over some fairly mediocre and occasionally unintelligible panellists, throwing humour into the bargain as well, it’s your man from Ireland.

Once Byrne finishes heating up the crowd and selecting a couple of unwilling volunteers to be his assistants, the show proper gets underway. His idea is essentially an amalgam of some well loved game shows from days of yore: Play Your Cards Right and Whose Line is it Anyway? amongst others. But don’t imagine that it’s as simple as that: with hilarious alterations to the traditional versions of the games, the host’s audience are in fits of laughter from beginning to end.

As with all great panel shows, the quick fire jokes rapidly disguise the fact that any kind of shambolic game is happening at all. And although it might be difficult to take such a disorganised display to air, as a way to revive your spirits as that Fringe stamina starts to ebb, this is an unparalleled success.
