CA$H in CHRIST!

Remember: Praise pays!

Controversial satirical musicals are nothing new at this year's Fringe. CA$H in CHRIST, a parody of Evangelical Christianity, is potentially the most controversial of them all.

Writers Van Badham and Jonny Berliner play husband and wife Fanny and Bob Comfort, aiming relentless satirical blows at the right-wing capitalists who earn their living in the name of Christ. Song Leader Bob Comfort’s “rocking cool” Christian rock is accompanied by scenes of fellow members of the Sunrise Church with eyes shut and raised hands, possessed by Jesus.

Taking inspiration from some real Christian sermons and literature, the Sunrise Church pumps out messages such as, “Let's get rich in Jesus,” being a "chubby" woman is wrong and, “We’ll smite the fags and towel-headed scum.” The show intends to put the “fun into fundamentalism” but its satire manages to leave one worrying about the extremities of the Christian right and the power they wield.

CA$H in CHRIST! is worth a look not only to provoke your thoughts about the Christian message, but also to see how many sexual innuendos can be related to Jesus in 50 minutes.
