Tiffany Stevenson: Cavewoman

Article by Bernard O'Leary | 09 Aug 2011

Some people will know Tiffany Stevenson as the blonde one off ITV's Show Me The Funny. If so, you've probably only seen her do 30 seconds of stand-up each week, so do yourself a favour and watch her do a full hour.

Stevenson's show seems to have undergone some radical last-minute changes, which gives the show a very uneven feel. There is a lot of padding; tried-and-tested jokes about make-up, Katie Price and other routine comedy fodder. But there's a striking new element in the show, with Stevenson telling us about the child she chose not to have as a teenager. The child's ghost hovers over the show and Stevenson repeatedly compares her life now to the life she could have had. It is emotional; at one point Stevenson looks like she may completely break down while she wonders what kind of mum she might have been. It certainly gives an excellent arc to the show as she goes from birth to relationships to marriage to death.

Stevenson is rapidly establishing herself as one of Britain's most versatile comedians and the emotional core of this show suggests that she might be able to move on to greater things soon.
