Fringe institution So You Think You’re Funny? returns for its 35th edition with another sparkling lineup of emerging standups ready to impress this year’s judges. After a series of heats held all over the UK, this year’s So You Think You’re Funny? panellists have narrowed down their selection to a shortlist of nine talented comedians: Ben Pollard, Daniel Petrie, Jack Skipper, Joshua Bethania, Justina Seselskaite, Mark Black, Prakash Jirjadhun, Pravanya Pillay, and Rohan Sharm.

These nine finalists will compete in So You Think You’re Funny?'s Grand Final tomorrow night (25 Aug). Kicking off at 7.30pm in the Gilded Balloon’s Teviot building, each of the above will have seven minutes in which to entertain this year’s audience – and crucially impress this year’s judges – with their original standup routines. Zoe Lyons will host the night, while Micky Flanagan will be among the judges.

Over the years, So You Think You’re Funny? has proven to be an excellent barometer for comedy greatness. Take for example, Maisie Adam. “The brilliant Maisie Adam won in 2017,” notes Gilded Balloon’s Katy Koren, “and she’s just completed a sellout series with extra dates added with us this year, so good things come of So You Think You’re Funny?!” Other previous So You Think You’re Funny? winners include Peter Kay, Rob Rouse, Lee Mack, Dylan Moran, Phil Kay, Aisling Bea, Rhona Cameron and Tommy Tiernan, so there’s a fair chance that over this two-and-a-half hour Grand Final you could spot some future stand-up stars.
