Sarah Bennetto @ Pleasance Dome

Antipodean comics are ten a penny at the Fringe so coming up with original material devoid of clichés can’t be easy. Sarah Bennetto's show is all the more entertaining for being a true story covering a subject surely few comedians touch on – a visit to Buckingham palace by invitation of the future King.

Bennetto’s show feels a little like spending a cosy afternoon in the pub with a friend who divulges secrets over a glass or two of wine. She instantly establishes a rapport with the audience and recounts stories ranging from growing up in rural Australia, to working on an obscure satellite channel culminating in a polyester-clad trip to Clarence House.

Whilst the act could do with some tightening up and the laugh-out-loud moments are perhaps too few, Bennetto is clearly an accomplished raconteur who has promising talent.

Pleasance Dome, 23-29 Aug, 1.30pm, £9 (£7.50)
