Isabelle Farah isn’t afraid to get loud. Following 2021’s sell out Fringe show Ellipsis, her latest show Irresponsabelle has been one of the most hotly anticipated comedy shows this year.

Farah’s smart, sharp critiques of “girlboss” culture see her wryly taking on the role of a pushy salesperson: “Working harder! Looking cuter! Aaaaand. Being paid less”. On the other side of the coin, she critiques the helpless colleagues who treat her like a maternal saviour, exemplified through a bizarrely awkward work situation she was forced to diffuse. Farah excels at storytelling, with each line and point of emphasis drawing out the humour in the situation.

All in all, she doesn’t want for much. “Is it too much to ask for a nice boyfriend?”. A unanimous no is heard. “What about a nice boyfriend who takes photos of me on his Instagram (grid – not stories) and…” Farah gets more and more frantic in delivery and pace as she escalates the wish to dizzying heights, until the whole room is unanimous in laughter.

Her delivery is fairly physical which keeps the set engaging and fresh throughout. While much ground has been tread about stereotypical office personalities and critiques of girlboss culture, witnessing Farah’s comically exaggerated impressions and takes add a whole new dimension to it that you need to witness for yourself.

All in all, this is a solidly fun and enjoyable set that ends on a high – Isabelle Farah is well worth your time this Fringe.
