Come Flyer With Me: Jollygoodlarks

Blog by Jollygoodlarks | 14 Aug 2011

"It's our first time up here and flyering seems an art we have yet to master. The art seems simply to involve flyering all day every day always and more always. A bit worried it might last till Halloween.

Then there is the etiquette of flyering of a performer who has a show elsewhere. Of course there's plenty of shows you're genuinely interested in, like anyone would be at the biggest festival ever, but occasionally you can tell when the two shows don't really tally. Neither party acknowledges this. The two of you then perform a merry dance of a slightly higher-pitched than normal 'Yeah, wow - I'll have to come down'.

You won't.

They won't.

And you both know it.

But they are fellows of yours. The alternative is to suck in through your teeth and grimace, 'Woah. Sounds like you're gonna lose a wadge of cash on that baby...' And that would just be too harsh. Too harsh.

We do genuinely love the hour of nonsense we're punting, though, and we hopefully carry some of that buoyancy onto the cobbles. This buoyancy has been useful in a Cowgate that we've been snorkeling down in the last few days.

And yet we have developed brilliant flyering tactics – we need to flyer but it would be unprofessional to perform our energetic show without the calories we need from this cake shop. Or this pub.
