Alistair Greaves Mixed Grill

Article by Renée Rowland | 09 Aug 2011

Introducing Alistair Greaves from North Yorkshire: vegetarian, boxer and your new best friend.

Greaves has come to Edinburgh to test some new ideas on Fringe audiences, so Mixed Grill is an evolving work, but one which even in its preview show has fundamental moments of comic genius. The show presents an assortment of comic cuisines on its platter; lots of different types, insists Greaves, ‘that are all awesome and all cooked up with love’.

Every night is compered by Greaves, who, by the end of the run, will probably be the star of his own show but is at this early stage, happy to pass the mic and spotlight to any comedian he finds on the street – it’s August, there are a lot of them – which is probably why he has attracted an Urban Shaman who may disconcertingly become a regular on the daily line up. Unknown variables aside, Greaves is a sweetheart who will make you laugh and clap and grin without realising it. The show is free and well worth every penny but bear in mind every night is a lucky dip, for Greaves as much as for his audience.
