EIFF announce free Film Fest in the City line-up

Edinburgh International Film Festival once again offers up a lively line-up of movies for its annual Film Fest in the City season

Edinburgh International Film Festival kicks off on 20 June this year, and Film Fest in the City – EIFF’s annual outdoor screening season in collaboration with Essential Edinburgh – should provide the perfect warm-up.

There’s something for everyone in the line-up, which kicks off 15 June with the eclectic trio of kick-ass comic book film Wonder Woman, the endlessly quotable romance Casablanca and high octane 80s nonsense with Top Gun.

Many of the weekend's selection of films fall into three broad categories: recent blockbusters (Thor: Ragnarok, Star Wars: The Last Jedi), 80s favourites (Ghostbusters, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Big) and musicals (The Greatest Showman, Moulin Rouge!). There’s also wet weekend favorite Jason and the Argonauts, John Carpenter's cult romp Big Trouble in Little China and Pixar superhero movie The Incredibles, which should act as a primer to the gala screening of Incredibles 2 in the main EIFF programme.

There’s also the opportunity to revisit the joyous Paddington and its sequel over the weekend. As an added bonus, the Film Fest in the City sponsors happen to be Dundee conserve specialists Mackays, who’ll be serving up some marmalade pieces during these screenings, alongside a Paddington fancy dress competition and savoury and sweet hampers featuring a range of Mackays’ jams, marmalades and chutneys.
