Arctic Monkeys to appear in Shane Meadows film at EIFF

Feature by Jenny Baldwin | 08 Jun 2009

Arctic Monkeys make an appearance in Shane Meadows’ new movie, Le Donk, which is set to be premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival later this month. The movie, which sees Paddy Considine and Shane Meadows join forces again in a hilarious improvised faux-rockumentary, is about a roadie named Donk (Paddy Considine) who attempts to to make Nottingham rapper Scorz-Ayz-ee (who plays himself) a star. The duo get a helping hand from the Arctic Monkeys and some of their fans: scenes from the film were shot at the band’s 2007 gigs at the Lancashire County Cricket Club (Old Trafford) in Manchester. Meadows, who has directed recent successful films such as This Is England and A Room for Romeo Brass, has revealed that he was approached by the Arctic Monkeys about working together. Paddy Considine previously starred in Arctic Monkeys’ video for their single Leave Before The Lights Come On. The film, shot on just £30,000, is set to premier at Edinburgh’s Filmhouse on 23 June and will be followed by a Q&A with Shane Meadows himself.
