The Mull Historical Society musician's first novel is described as "a beguiling tale of secrets and sadness" set on the Hebridean island.

MacIntyre presented The Letters of Ivor Punch at the Festival in August, and also appeared alongside fellow musician John Darnielle of the Mountain Goats at EIBF's Unbound strand of late-night events.

Edinburgh International Book Festival's First Book Award – voted for by festival attendees and members of the public – is open to all authors bringing their debut novel, novella or short story collection to the Festival. 56 authors were eligible for this year's award.

Announcing the winner, EIBF director Nick Barley said: “As a songwriter, Colin MacIntyre seems always to have been a natural storyteller. Such powerful storytelling resonated strongly with readers at the Book Festival, making Colin a runaway winner in voting for the First Book Award.”
