Our Founding Daughters: Fashion Photography Exhibition

This Friday 9 August will see the launch of Our Founding Daughters, an exhibition featuring the works of three of Scotland’s most talented emerging female fashion photographers, at somewhereto_ re:store’s new venue on South Frederick Street, Glasgow.

The inspiring exhibition will showcase the work of contemporary fashion photographers Levi Macdonald, Emily Wylde and Nuala Swan. Film helps Levi Macdonald create soft and dreamlike images – but there’s no sugar-coating her work as she achieves something of a paradox, her models appearing simultaneously vulnerable and natural but also edgy and alluring. Zoology graduate Nuala Swan has made the seamless transition from live music to fashion photography, quickly creating an experimental signature style by mixing digital work with traditional 35mm and Instax instant film. Emily Wylde has also moved from photographing live music to the world of fashion photography. Though still a student, she has already developed a bold and playful style – using outlandish styling and props in a similar vein to a young Tim Walker – thus setting her apart from many of those more established in the industry.

The launch night kicks off at 8pm on Friday night at somewhereto_ re:store’s new venue on South Frederick Street, where there will be live music featuring Craig Wallace and a wine reception from The Squid and Whale. The exhibition will be open from 10am to 7pm on the Saturday and Sunday, with all three photographers present to answer any questions. Prints of the works on show will also be available for sale throughout the weekend.
