Judy's Affordable Vintage Fair

As ripped, slightly tattered and faded clothing has come right back into fashion focus this A/W, it could be said that your granny's cardigan has become more in-vogue than a brand new one found on the high street. Sadly for vintage devotees, as vintage grows in popularity, often so does the price tag.

Then along came Judy, and a gasp of joy sounded through Edinburgh and Glasgow as the famous Judy's Affordable Vintage Fair come to showcase its hidden gems here on Scottish soil. This vintage event offers a genuine alternative to the high street and hammers vintage prices down up to almost 75% less than usual.

Sellers decked out in fox fur and tea dresses are clearly passionate about their wares and are happy to help. The crowds are all sharp elbows and gentle shoves, but that's all part of the fun when rummaging with people who're clearly so passionate about vintage. Says 19-year-old Emma Andrew, a fashion textiles student at the Glasgow event: “I stayed in last night just to make sure I was here for the opening. I love how reasonably priced these garments are. It's so exciting!”

A nice touch is that amongst the mink furs and shoulder pads there are also new pieces by independent designers to be found. Handmade and charming pieces like retro love-heart earrings are displayed proudly on Glasgow based Rachael Leich's stall: “I have such a love for kitsch designs, but above all I want to design jewellery that I would proudly wear myself.”

Judy's hand picked sellers' wares are of high quality and prices are good, helping skint students and the credit crunch generation to find beautiful bargains around the UK.
