Glasgow School of Art Fashion Show 2012 Preview

Preview by Adeline Amar | 11 Mar 2012

The weekend will have been a busy one for Glasgow School of Art’s third year Fashion and Textile students, hard at work putting the finishing touches to their garments for their fashion catwalk show. Due to be presented five times over the evenings of 13 and 14 March, the show is organised  and produced by the third year students, who are hoping to raise enough money to present their final degree work at London’s 2013 graduate event, New Designers.

For this year’s show, the students are working on the theme of 'shaping journeys' and working both on designing the textiles themselves and the making of the garments. Inspired by the idea of movement, travel and personal journey, the three-piece capsule collection reflects personal takes on the theme; these are as varied as a trip to Hong Kong or travelling on the Glasgow Underground. Each individual experience is presented using the student’s specialism, ranging through knit, print, weave and embroidery. While Fashion Design students – part of the show for the first time – will also showcase a collection focusing on garment construction and draping techniques.

The 2012 Glasgow School of Art Fashion show will take place at 7pm and 9pm on Tuesday 13 March, and 5pm, 7pm and 9pm on Wednesday 14 March. This year’s show has moved from its previous location and will now take place at the art gallery and studio SWG3. Tickets are £5 conc. / £7 and available in person from the Glasgow School of Art shop and the Art School Union, or online at TicketsScotland.
