Noir! Africa /// Celebrations

Preview by Mhairi Graham | 01 Nov 2010

Fast becoming one of Edinburgh’s most vibrant and eclectic club nights, Noir! returns with an indulgent alliance of art, fashion, music and this time film, in a night named AFRICA /// CELEBRATIONS. This night of Noir! debauchery is in collaboration with Africa in Motion, who aim to introduce Scottish audiences to African cinema, providing a platform for African filmmakers to showcase their work. The event will be a celebration of African culture and contemporary design and the climax of the film festival, set against a killer soundtrack and a host of special guests.

Noir!'s latest party centres on a theatrical catwalk preformance, featuring work by Nigerian designer Nkwo Onwuka and the ethical brand JOHARI, along with work from students at the Edinburgh College of Art, who have created pieces in response to the African theme.

The party continues (11pm-3am) with WONKY, the Trouble DJs and Wolfjazz of Trade Union and We Are Electric fame, with a selection of afro, dancehall and hiphop beats. Mim Suleiman will also perform East-African inspired music from her critically acclaimed debut album, Tungi (produced by Maurice Fulton).

Noir! has continuously managed to fuse creativity with club night, and this event promises to be bigger and better than before. AFRICA///CELEBRATIONS offers us an insight into a colourful continent as well as an enjoyable nocturnal experience.

£8/6 (concessions) includes after party also at The Bongo Club. Tickets are available on the door or in advance through The Filmhouse, Lothian Road www.filmhousecinema.com www-africa-in-motion.org.uk
