Teddy on the Tube
He either looks like a really fucked version of a super-fit person, or a super-fit version of a really fucked person.
Every so often, one clip on Youtube is recommended to you by everyone you know all at once. Sometimes it's a random clip of an overweight teenage boy miming badly to a song and consigning himself to at least another five years of bullying by his peers. At other times it's a fantastic film trailer. Recent classics in this mould included the trailer for Snakes On A Plane, then the one for 300, and now a new classic has reared it's head.
Fresh from the Success of Rocky 85, Sylvester Stallone's decided to stick with a winning idea and make yet another sequel to a series you thought he'd already milked dry. Given that Sly has now reached the age of 60, it's a mercy that this new film is simply titled 'John Rambo', rather than something like "First… Blood In My Stools, Doctor."
Is he up to the task of this film? Doubts are raised about his remaining abilities early in the trailer. When asked "Have you lived here a long time?" Stallone pauses before delivering a cheesily weighty "Long time." I immediately began to worry that the memory was starting to go, and that Stallone's entire dialogue would be prompted by questions with the answer contained. Thankfully that's not the case.
So with the acting skills intact (as intact as they ever were anyway), how does the great man stand up to the task of still looking hard? Well, depending on your point of view he either looks like a really fucked version of a super-fit person, or a super-fit version of a really fucked person. Perhaps realising that this look would dilute people's faith in him as a killing machine, Sly has wisely opted to go the route of gratuitous, bloody, and over the top violence to get the message across to people – Rambo's still well fucking hard! It's a trailer that whets the appetite for the film, and that will currently be irritating the queasiest members of your office as you insist on playing it over and over to them. See you in the cinema queue!
