PREVIEW - February Comedy Highlights

Article by By Xavier Toby | 15 Feb 2006
For Edinburgh this month the highlights begin with Daniel Kitson, one of the most talented and original performers on the circuit, returning to where it all began at The Stand (Tues Feb 14 and Wed Feb 15). Next up Jason John Whitehead visits Jongleurs on Fri Feb 17 and Sat Feb 18, and while his trademark dreadlocks might be gone, that sparkling wit certainly is not. Another big name and star of the last few Edinburgh Fringe festivals, Danny Bhoy, plays a few intimate gigs at the Jazz Bar trialling new material and at only a fiver, it's well worth the gamble (Sunday Feb 5, 12 and 19).

Glasgow is not without it's big names either with none other than Stephen K. Amos making a rare non-festival visit to Jongleurs on Feb 2, 3 and 4 – a fine showman and one of the best feel good comics on the circuit. For something a bit different try 'Bob Doolally's Fitba' Crazy!' at The Stand on Wednesday Feb 8, with 1967 Scotland v. England on the big screen and punditry from two special guests. Alan Carr then visits The Stand on Friday Feb 17 and Saturday Feb 18, and if you can't remember where you know that name from, he's been on the telly a fair bit lately – check out the interview in the comedy section.

Also during February Ben Elton makes a quick stop in Scotland, at the King's Theatre in Glasgow on Sunday Feb 19, and the following night in Edinburgh at the Festival Theatre. He's one of the most successful comedy writers ever and has done it all – books, plays, television, movies, and his standup ain't too bad either.
