Miles Jupp: Telling It Like It Might Be

Article by Simon Proctor | 10 Aug 2009

A sold out audience fills the Teviot dining hall to see the upper class ramblings of Miles Jupp. He has an accent that comes straight from the playing fields of Eton and a charming style that keeps the audience enthralled.

This year's festival set is a selection of personal anecdotes told with a dry wit, sprinkled with a selection of off-the-cuff comments that make you wince, then burst out laughing. He's a brilliant storyteller, drawing you into his tales – whether about why you shouldn't punch a laptop or about getting the night bus to Amsterdam – then delivering the punchline with perfect timing.

Jupp can easily hold an audience for an hour, even when forced to start late. In fact I would have loved another hour to listen to some more stories. For the lover of the shaggy dog story or sharp political commentary it's a great way to spend an hour.
