Sophie Black, Seb Cardinal and Dustin Demri-Burns are the stars of the Fat Tongue trio, who create a mouthful of farcical and funny sketches with an array of inventive characters. Since their 2006 if.com Best Newcomer nomination, a dash of the absurd has been added to new routines, from pussy lions to aliens from Pluto, and their tight act has good continuation and call backs to pull the set together. The ideas are creative, including Planet Earth auditions and some sexy dancing from Billy Elliot. Some characters overstay their welcome however, and lengthy sketches become tedius. The team capture their imagined personas but the quality of writing does not always meet the acting ability, with some punch lines falling short of their mark. Although it's a hit and miss performance, Fat Tongue diplay enough pizazz to indicate there is more of the weird and wonderful to come. [Esme Jones]
