The month before the spring comedy festival circuit lands in Scotland (Glasgow Comedy Festival starts 15 March), Edinburgh and Glasgow are awash with gigs you definitely don’t want to miss!

February gets off to a pretty good start with Frankie Boyle doing some final previews of his Lap of Shame show (The Stand, Edinburgh, 1 and 5-9 Feb, 5pm, £15) before taking it on a UK tour, starting at the gorgeous King’s Theatre Glasgow (13-15 Feb, 7.30pm, £29.50). Next up we have Josh Pugh who’s touring his heartwarming Edinburgh Comedy Award-nominated show Sausage, Egg, Josh Pugh, Chips & Beans (we gave it four stars back in August). Catch him at the Edinburgh and Glasgow Stands on 4-5 Feb (Glasgow, 4 Feb, 4.50pm; Edinburgh, 5 Feb, 7.30pm, both £12), and at Monkey Barrel Comedy for a live recording of the show on 12 March (5pm, £12).

The fifth of February is a bumper day of comedy in Scotland – as well as Josh Pugh, Amy Matthews records Moreover, the Moon which we described as “a debut hour filled with undeniably solid laughs” (Monkey Barrel, 5 Feb, 5pm, £8), whilst hot off his appearance on I’m A Celebrity, Babatunde Aléshé brings Babahood to the Glasgow Stand (8.30pm, £13.50).

You think that’s impressive? Rounding off the week, comes two massive gigs from women paving the way in comedy. Dazzling millennial chanteuse Catherine Cohen brings new show Come For Me to the Glee Club, Glasgow on 9 Feb (7.30pm, £28). The following day, outstanding stand-up and Taskmaster star Fern Brady gives us the goss on her new book Strong Female Character in a Scottish-exclusive Q+A at Edinburgh’s Assembly Rooms, run by the gems at Portobello Books (10 Feb, 7.30pm, £18.50).

Other must-see February gigs include Janey Godley’s farewell Edinburgh gig at the Festival Theatre (19 Feb, 8pm, from £23.50), our Dream Gig wonder Adam Flood with his Clayhead Remoulded work-in-progress at Monkey Barrel (25 Feb, 8pm, £7) and Simon Munnery as he regales the Barrel with details of his two brushes with the law (28 Feb, 8.30pm, £14).
