Will Saul - Simple Sounds

Though never straying from four-to-the-floor rhythms, this well sequenced electro, disco, techno, dub-tinged collection of house expertly holds the attention from start to finish

Album Review by Colin Chapman | 07 Dec 2007
Album title: Simple Sounds
Artist: Will Saul
Label: Simple Records
Blurring the boundaries between traditional artist album and DJ mix, Simple Sounds sees Will Saul act as A&R, producer and DJ. Contributing new and exclusive tracks and selecting remixers to work on some of his older works, Saul offers a snapshot of his Simple and Aus labels over two CDs. The first takes a slightly more down-tempo route, opening atmospherically with Saul's own 3000AD, before taking in further exclusives from the label boss, alongside remixes of his tracks by Partial Arts, 20:20 Soundsystem and highlights from Wahoo and Gui Boratto. Moving things onto the dancefloor, CD 2 showcases other artists' output on the two imprints; tracks by My My, Lee Jones and Sideshow give way to remixes from the likes of Phonique, Spirit Catcher, Jimpster. Though never straying from four-to-the-floor rhythms, this well sequenced electro, disco, techno, dub-tinged collection of house expertly holds the attention from start to finish. [Colin Chapman]
