In DJ terms they don't come much more legendary than U-Roy

It would take a churlish soul to deny U-Roy some late career hay-making. Jamaica may have one of the richest musical traditions on the planet but the legends responsible for this goldmine tend not to enjoy the same gilded status reserved for those in the developed world. And, in DJ terms anyway, they don't come much more legendary than U-Roy. The self-proclaimed 'Originator' was a pioneer of the proto-rap innovation of chatting new lyrics over classic reggae, ska and rocksteady rhythms and was accorded the respect he deserved by the reverent crowd at the Liquid Rooms for his Triptych appearance. He seemed to enjoy himself as well, delivering musings on politics, world peace, and, of course, the wonders of the odd jazz cigarette, all served up on top of a crafty selection of Studio One scorchers. Sharing the stage with him was fellow toaster Top Cat and his more dancehall tinged delivery seemed to fuse well with that of the old master's as they chanted down Babylon with peerless back-up courtesy of some of the mightiest rhythms ever committed to vinyl.
