In this age of cool kitsch and bastard pop it's refreshing to find a night whose playlist can resolutely be defined as 'eclectic'. Turbofun isn't afraid to smash the parameters of what constitutes a quirky and oh-so-hip dance set these days and the result is an unflinching genre mash-up of the best (and occasionally the worst) of electronic music – staple hard acid and drum n bass tracks are offset by everything from Bamboo-friendly hip house to relentless gabber. Tongue firmly in cheek and never pretentious, the effect is often disorientating, at times exhilarating, and nearly always fun. Tonight suffered from a poor turnout, but given time to establish itself, the potential is there for a cheap and wild Friday. Turbofun's no holds barred approach to electronic music and rotating DJ roster make it impossible to know what to expect; it's worth checking out for that reason alone. [Calum Rodger]
