Trashed @ Cruz

Despite its name, Trashed promised to be a night of sleek sophistication. It didn't disappoint

There's something wonderfully romantic about drinking on a boat; it inspires a sense of occasion not to be found on dry land, and despite its name, Trashed promised to be a night of sleek sophistication. It didn't disappoint. Competent bar staff ensure you are served quickly, with a wide range of up-scale cocktails to choose from. In comparison to the dingy, dark rooms of the capital's other gay nights, Cruz is well lit and bright, presumably so that the beautiful people can all be seen as they sip their martinis and boogie to a mix of disco and electro pop. The only drawback is the low ceiling - I saw one poor drag queen who, to paraprhase RuPaul, with hair, heels and attitude was, quite literally, almost through the roof.
Cruz (The Boat), 14 The Shore, Leith. 10pm-3am. £6. Next date: Sat 19 May http://www.trashedclub.com
