The Merry Pranksters, Basement Boogie, Hudson's, Edinburgh, Oct 26

Article by Lara Moloney | 12 Nov 2006
After wandering around the side streets of the West End looking for the little known Hudson Nightclub and their recently launched Basement Boogie night, it was pleasantly surprising to be greeted by funky hip hop and an up-for-it crowd. The quality of the Merry Pranksters (not related to the 60s psychedelic counterculture leaders) and Iain Gibson's eclectic mix got the dancefloor packed with original Paul Simon, electro reggae blends and interesting Pink Floyd house compilations. The £1.95 jack, vodka or gin mixers and pints also helped keep everyone as merry as the music! A thoroughly enjoyable night in a venue that oozes chic, impromptu breakdancing and bar staff in kilts - watch out for more Merry pranking from these talented boys at venues around Edinburgh. If you are into the smokin' sounds of The Merry Pranksters you can catch other alternative beats from The Trouble DJ's every Friday at Assembly or Tokyoblu, last Friday of the month at Ego.
