Single title: Get On The Floor/All By Myself
Artist: The Ironweed Project
Label: Fat Northener
Hip-hop alchemist and co-writer of A Guy Called Gerald's epic Voodoo Ray, Aniff Akinola possesses a Mike Patton-ish ability to play chicken with conflicting genres and make it work. Get On The Floor takes the shape of a swinging Mississippi blues ballad, bizarrely resting somewhere between DJ Format and Hamell On Trial: wiggle your jazz hands with a semi-ironic inane grin for this one. All By Myself is mellow, instrumental and sincerely felt, like KNO with female vocals (Kyla Brox), with a lightweight d&b pick up a minute in, and hillbilly twang. Good stuff. [Rosie Mclean]
Released: Out now.
