The Hacker ft. Mount Sims - Traces / Flesh & Bone (Remixes) (Goodlife)

Although it is nicely polished, it is oddly restrained

Single Review by Bram Gieben | 17 Mar 2006
Single title: Traces / Flesh & Bone
Artist: The Hacker ft. Mount Sims
The remixes of Traces, The Hacker's collaboration with Mount Sims, are just not as good as they are supposed to be. Both the Oxia and the Dexter remix chart familiar territory in a minimalist fashion that although solid, does not have the same dancefloor appeal of the LP 'Reves Mecaniques.' Of the two, the Oxia remix is the most interesting, with a nicely structured buildup that would work earlier in a set. Blackstrobe's perfunctory remix of Flesh & Bone adds little to the original either. Although it is nicely polished, and has the distinctive sounds you would expect from an Ivan Smagghe remix, it is oddly restrained. The Hacker's latest 12" is by-the-numbers electrotech: underwhelming considering the source material. [Bram Gieben]
