The fantastic grooves turned in by the residents just go to show that there's more to the clubbing experience than the big names.

The evening kicked off pleasantly with some great sets from the residents and Rob Dylan, who played a thoroughly entertaining set of off-kilter quirky house, followed up by Goodlife's Jerome with a functional, if not pleasingly predictable, set on a Vitalic/Euro tip. Access and Split topcat Pyz treated us to a shamelessly dancefloor-destroying set; his DJing is both exciting and typically flawless, with emphasis on delivering what people actually might party to. In contrast, the Hacker's fairly pedestrian set showed little of the flare that catapulted him to the top of the techno scene. His set seemed to be designed for compatibility with the new wave of Italo and trance-like minimalism sweeping the globe, with very little emphasis on the raw cranked techno element that used to slide so effortlessly amongst his electro sound.
