A Gilles Peterson-hosted Triptych line-up once again graces Glasgow's gallery-theatre space, Tramway. Like a sprawling live edition of his own radio show, a varied mixture of acts and DJs are showcased across two rooms tonight. The evening gets underway in the larger theatre area, with a set from Peterson blurring the usual musical boundaries, and Manchester-outfit Various Productions providing a blend of darkened break-step to a gathered handful in the smaller side room. Gilles later swaps rooms for a second stint on the decks as Cinematic Orchestra takes to the main stage. Fronted by compositional mastermind, J. Swinscoe, the six-piece impresses with their sweeping, widescreen arrangements that beautifully combine elements of jazz, hip-hop and soul. Dubstep pioneer Kode 9's bass-heavy broodings are expertly matched with Space Ape's claustrophobic, urban poetry. However, back in the theatre, a strangely hidden Kenny Dixon Jr delivers a hit and miss selection to a rapidly dwindling, post-Cinematic audience. [Colin Chapman]
