Taste's 600th Night

Taste is usually a choice dish for clubbing connoisseurs; tonight it was devoid of flavour

With 600 Tastes under their belts you would have expected a birthday party
to remember, rather than one you wanted to forget. Maybe it was the
birthday celebrations that brought the wrong crowd, but the weekly club
night was devoid of the usually colourful cast of nightclub characters,
and had instead been gatecrashed by an aggressive and obtrusive gang of
pilled-up lager louts. This put a dampener on the atmosphere, which tried
to get off the ground, but remained as flat as an old balloon. The night
could have been saved by the music, but for DJs Fisher and Price, the
comedown may have kicked in a few hours prematurely and the crowd was
left uninspired by their choice of impenetrable hard house. The only ones
feeling it danced goggle-eyed staring at the DJ booth. Taste is usually a
choice dish for clubbing connoisseurs; tonight it was devoid of flavour. [Gregor Laird]
