Well they're back, moving on from their 1 Skinny Natural Selection LP, to the 2 star hip-hop offering of their Wayward Son EP: a procrastination of at least two songs, if not ten. Do you need three versions of the same song on one EP? This is especially true when one of the remixes (by Stonez the Riddlah of Dark Rumours) transforms your own 'crowning' title track into something vastly more palatable. You Can Have Anything is a strange and mistaken exploration of the Oedipus complex – a song that professes a wish to be a King to his mother's Queen (who provides genuinely outstanding vocals), in what would be a peculiar matrimonial arrangement. Swagger feat. Cad runs a bit smoother but again Steg G and Freestyle Master end up parodying themselves with the unintentional comedy of their lyrics: "I'm like Stephen Hawking with the body of an athlete." And that most hated of samples, the chimes, is over-used to underwhelming effect too often. Luv is the Drug feat Cad is, in short, jaded at most, culminating in loud exclamations of what sounds like "TCP" followed by "PCP" and maybe even "NCP". Steg G and Freestyle Master: Divisive, 'inventive', and still here. [Struan Otter]
