Not all superstar DJs lose touch with the music

AfterDark cemented its place amongst the cream of the capital's club nights when it teamed up with Australian superclub Kink to present a master class from Sharam Jey. The German funkster played an eclectic 3hr set ranging from electro to rock n' roll. Relying heavily on his own impressive back catalogue, Sharam wowed the lively crowd, and his Money in the Bag proved particularly popular. Constant inventiveness defined the evening, with amusing and sometimes confusing appearances from Blur (Song 2), Peter Tosh (Chase the Devil) and Rage Against the Machine (Killing in The Name Of). A remix of Eddie Murphy's Party All The Time provoked an ecstatic reception and the set only came to an end once security stepped in and cut power to the decks, ignoring vocal chants for "one more tune." An excellent night out; apparently not all superstar DJs lose touch with the music! [Murray Ainslie]
