Roger Sanchez & Laidback Luke - Afterdark Vol. 3

Luke's own track Plastic Dreams and the funky Rumba leave you with an aftertaste suggesting his future will not be aping his name

Album title: Afterdark Vol. 3
Artist: Roger Sanchez & Laidback Luke
Label: Stealth Records
Sanchez, New York's world famous house shaman, joins with Laidback Luke, one of Holland's hottest underground techno stars for some nocturnal nastiness. In keeping with the Afterdark ethos the duo have tried to incorporate as many styles as possible while remaining in the conventional house and techno blueprints. The Sanchez mix is funky, although it is not bringing anything new to the house jumble sale. There are also some elements of trance (Respected) and tribal rhythms on Burn. Light my Fire is a quality example of bread and butter house; a great sample, cheeky vocal loops and layer upon layer of funky beats. Laidback Luke's mix is more in-your-face, and features more of his own material. His remix of Push The Feeling On shows why Sanchez was so keen to have him involved. Luke's own track Plastic Dreams and the funky Rumba leave you with an aftertaste suggesting his future will not be aping his name. [Franck Martin]
