After much venue confusion the relocated event (from Liquid Rooms) gets well underway with hordes flocking to see the almighty Mr Scruff play a mammoth 5-hour set. His mixing creates a magical spark, as the music moves from swing style jazz to dirty deep bass, hitting every genre in between. Quality combinations from reggae, Who loves Bob Marley, classic Scruff tunage such as the Pie Space Mix, and brand new tracks like If This Ain't Love keep the atmosphere lively. His quirky, characteristic animation, subtle slogans and a tea shop selling aprons and tea towels galore all add to the ambience and unusual approach to his music making and live shows. An exuberant performance of funk-fuelled beats and smooth underlying instrumentals still place Mr Scruff at the top of his game. While some find the length of the set a slight drag, the majority boogy away to the end and are rewarded with a banging version of Get a Move On, leaving the crowd floating on a high. [Lara Moloney]
