Morphy, Sequential, Studio 24, Edinburgh, 20 Apr

Things are definitely on the up

They say good things come to those who wait and that certainly seems the case for both Sequential and its bricks and mortar at Studio 24. The feeling was that things were spiralling downward for the venue, but if tonight is anything to go by things are definitely on the up. The sound system had been prepped and was ready to provide the swelling and rambunctious crowd with the kind of ear-pounding that they are entitled to expect. Residents Weak Hunt and Covalent provide the openers, joined later by the ambient and atmospheric reverbing vocals of Lu Angel, which compliments Covalent's tune selection perfectly. Headliner Morphy, believe it or not, comes from Glasgow, although you could be mistaken for thinking he has some Caribbean blood running through those veins. The half-speed dub flavoured vibes with heavy rolling basslines and raga vocals from MC Mr Ben bounces the bustling dancefloor all the way to 3am. Calton Road comeback? Phase one complete.
