To celebrate Emergency's 2nd Birthday, Dutchman Max 404 (a.k.a. Erwin Van Moll) made a return appearance after a successful visit last November. The night also marked the arrival of new co-resident, James Pole. Warming-up, he and Andrew played low-slung disco joints blended with laid-back rock, before edging into more electronic territory. The dance-floor remained frustratingly quiet but suddenly, as if a visiting disco-tour bus had just pulled-up outside, a throng of people wandered in, creating a jam at the bar while curious others checked-out the music more closely. Max soon took over, playing a varied set that took in Aretha Franklin and James Brown, before weaving through Chez Damier, Francois Kervorkian, Eurythmics and Carl Craig amongst others. The crowd were excitable and enthusiastic throughout. The DFA remix of Gorillaz' Dare was given a welcome airing before proceedings were rounded off with Max's own re-rub of Martin Circus' Circus Circus to rapturous cheering and shouts of "One more tune!."
