Marley Marl is one of hip-hop's finest DJs. It's a good job too, because Pete Rock, the other name on tonight's bill, has had his passport retained by US customs and won't be joining us. Instead, Boom Monk Ben gives us some of his favourite tunes while we watch some of Glasgow's best breakdancers warm up for a few tunes. When the big man eventually gets up on stage, the party atmosphere in effect moves up a good notch or two. He opens with everyone's favourite Liquid Liquid tune, musically stating his intent to rock the house. After one slightly odd-sounding beat bounce, it turns out to be one of the best hip-hop party sets you could have asked for. His tune choice is geared towards classics and bangers; from the RZA to Dre, also dropping funk classics from James Brown and hip-hop standbys like California into the mix.
