Love is All - Mixed Up

A slightly flawed experiment, but also an enjoyably interesting one

Album title: Mixed Up
Artist: Love is All
Label: Infected
There's something very Pet Shop Boys-ish about this album. There's lots of colourful beats to get our attention and plenty of amusingly detached vocals to sympathise with. The Bees practically molest Make Out Fall Out Make Up, battering it over the head with its own handbag. That track pretty much sets the tone for the whole album. The only real criticism is, at times, the album's pacing is a little schizophrenic, with moods changing suddenly. The real treat, though, is that the voice is king at all times. Whether swooping and swooning its way through Make Out Fall Out Make Up or dodging the electronics of Turn The Radio Up and Busy Doing Nothing, it rules the whole record to very satisfying effect. A slightly flawed experiment, but also an enjoyably interesting one. [Jonathan Robert Muirhead]
