Switzerland is famous for many things but dance music isn't really one of them. Refreshing then to find Geneva-based producers Lee Van Dowski and Quenum keeping the end up with their stunning Soma debut full length 'As Told On The Eve Of...' The culmination of two weeks locked in a cabin in the Alps; 'As Told...' takes us on a journey through the deep dubby styles of Overkill and The Joint Echo to the tense, skewed Lust, and Little Doll Chaos... with a couple of beautifully rendered downtempo tracks thrown in for good measure. The record's ebb and flow between meandering soundscape and incisive, minimally orientated tracks means there's tons of club potential as well as providing a soundtrack to a 6am comedown. Lee Van Dowski and Quenum have engineered a coherent album of disparate styles that proves once and for all that there's more to Swiss music than yodelling. [Robbie Thomson]
