Junior Boys - In The Morning

It's still a rarity when mixes can sound better than the original

This single release is a glimpse into the Junior Boy's forthcoming album 'So This Is Goodbye.' Their first track, In the Morning, has depth of character, with suspended chimes and door-slamming beats. The slowed groove that accompanies the arpeggiated synths as they climb and fall over the lyrics flirts with house and a kind of mechanical r&b. It's given a minimal makeover by Glasgow's Alex Smoke by dropping the pitch and layering in subtle beats. It's not as emotive as the original however, as it leaves you yearning for more voice and less clicks and whirrs. Elements of dance-orientated pop creep through The Equalizer, through Erasure-esque keyboards, clipped beats and a polished alto. Morgan Geist's remix makes the difficult attempt at pulling off a chipmunk voice sample mid-song in his Graphic remix without much success – it's still a rarity when mixes can sound better than the original. Out now, new album 'So This Is Goodbye' out Sept 11.
