Jane Seawright Trio, Sygn, Edinburgh, Oct 19

A relaxed, harmonious mood in a busy city centre bar

It was the French composer Claude Debussy who famously stated: "Music is the space between the notes." This could not be more true when entering the warm, stylish surroundings of Sygn in the west end of Edinburgh and being greeted by the delicate, laid back sounds provided by the Jane Seawright Trio. Their arrangements of smooth jazz numbers from Marlena Shaw to Bill Withers were eloquently brought together and, while fantastically alluring, they were far removed from portraying any element of the self-indulgent stigma that is attached to jazz itself. The trio was fused by the beautifully endearing voice of Jane Seawright who felt every word that she sang, while remaining effortless in her approach. A relaxed, harmonious mood in a busy city centre bar - Thursday nights were made for this. [Jonny Ogg]
