Jae P & Myth - One/Ansa

Jae P & Myth set the benchmark for hip-hop acts trying to make it in Scotland

Album Review by Ian Sinkamba | 15 Jul 2006
Album title: One/Ansa
Artist: Jae P & Myth
Label: Haatsville
Jae P and Myth flex some dynamic hip-hop on this goldmine of an album, 'One/Ansa'. Lyrically controversial, but also delivering a fresh urban beat, their intricate style of hip-hop and soulful harmonies have garnered these rising talents mass respect across the nation, and airplay over 1Xtra, Choice FM and Scotland based XFM. This isn't something you often find on your urban doorstep - they transcend the local scene to the national. Glasgow based Jae P & Myth have enough lyrical weight to rival the next contenders, and on the strength of this sampler for their separate albums (coming soon) they set the benchmark for hip-hop acts trying to make it in Scotland. Originating from Ghana, Jae P's collaboration with Myth and other MCs (including Skrach and Jayso) to form Haatsville Records has defined what can only be said to be the 'Next Big Thing' for Scotland's urban music scene; recalling the work of Mos Def, Nate Dogg and A Tribe Called Quest without being derivative. Absolutely top quality. [Ian Sinkamba]
