Gotan Project - Lunatico

There is a feeling that the contributors were born in the wrong period, and country

Tango and electronica are not obvious bed-fellows, but the Gotan Project have put a lot into reviving an older genre, and modernising it without cutting up the frame and re-arranging to suit. The follow-up album to debut 'La Revancha del Tango' takes the tango element and runs with it, retaining a purist form that wouldn't stick out on a classical production. The Latin lounge style incorporates accordions, funky beats, and a feeling that the contributors were born in the wrong period, and country, since all three members are Parisian. Mi Confession features some snappy Italian rapping which is always going to be a winner, simply because the lyricism of the language can be perfectly captured by the expressive art of rap. What a pleasing way to expand your tastes to include World music. [Alex Burden]
Out in June on CD and double vinyl.
